US President Donald Trump has openly expressed his disappointment with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In an interview with Corriere della Sera , Trump said that he thought Meloni was a courageous leader, but time has shown him to be wrong.
Before the Italian journalist began the interview, Trump exploded on the other end of the phone with a series of questions regarding the perception of Italian citizens regarding the situation in Iran and the lack of action on Meloni's part.
" Do the Italians like the fact that your prime minister is not giving us any help to get oil? Do the people like her? I can't imagine. I'm shocked by her. I thought she was brave, but I was wrong," Donald Trump said in a phone call with Corriere della Sera.
Asked by Italian media if he had spoken to Meloni about this, Trump said that she had told him that Italy did not want to be involved, despite the fact that its oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
"No. She's just saying that Italy doesn't want to get involved. Even though Italy gets its oil from there, even though America is very important to Italy, she doesn't think Italy should get involved. She thinks America should do the work for her ," Trump said.
Regarding the clash with the Pope and Giorgia Meloni's statement that Trump's words were unacceptable, the US president said that Meloni was wrong on this story. According to Trump, Meloni does not care if Iran has nuclear weapons and that if given the chance, he could destroy Italy.
" That's what's unacceptable, because they don't care if Iran has a nuclear weapon and they would blow up Italy in two minutes if they could ," the US president said.
Asked again if he had had contact with Meloni about these complaints, Trump added that it had been a long time since he had spoken to the Italian prime minister.

In an interview that lasted just six minutes, ' Corriere della Sera' said Donald Trump harshly criticized the Italian prime minister, saying she is no longer the same person.
"She is no longer the same person and Italy will never be the same country. Immigration is killing Italy and all of Europe ," Trump said.
Trump also reiterated that Europe is destroying itself from within with its immigration and energy policies.
"They pay the highest energy costs in the world and they are not even prepared to fight for the Strait of Hormuz, where they get it from. They depend on Donald Trump to keep it open ," Trump said.
When asked if he had asked Italy to use minelayers, the American president said that he had asked them to help with whatever they could but they failed, because according to him, NATO is a paper tiger.
" I asked them to send whatever they wanted, but they don't want to because NATO is a paper tiger," the US president said.
Regarding Pope Leo and his call for peace, Trump stressed that the Pope does not understand that Iran poses a nuclear threat.
"He doesn't understand and shouldn't be talking about war, because he has no idea what's going on. He doesn't understand that 42,000 protesters were killed in Iran last month ," Trump stressed.
Asked if he was disappointed by Orban's loss, he said he considered him a friend and that unlike Meloni, he has done a good job of protecting his country's interests.
"He was a friend of mine. He wasn't my choice, but he was my friend, a good man. He did a good job on immigration. He didn't let people come in and destroy his country like Italy did ," Trump concluded.
