The German Bundestag "slaps" Vucic: The elections in Serbia were

We expect the country, which has been negotiating for membership in the European Union since 2014, to hold free and fair elections. Instead, the recent elections in Serbia appear to have been systematically manipulated by the state.

Today, the German Bundestag held a discussion on the parliamentary and local elections in Serbia, in which election observers were also invited, where the conclusion was reached that the events in Serbia are going in the wrong direction and that the elections in Belgrade should be repeated.

" We expect the country, which has been negotiating for membership in the European Union since 2014, to hold free and fair elections. Instead, the recent elections in Serbia appear to have been systematically manipulated by the state. It is the last time that the EU Commission mentions the shortcomings of democracy in Serbia and reconsiders the way it deals with the political leaders there. We await an independent investigation and clarification of all allegations ," said a statement signed by the European policy spokesman for Chancellor Olaf Scholz's SDP parliamentary group.

The statement recalled that election observers reported intimidation of civil servants, vote buying, biased media reporting in favor of the ruling party, and targeted abuse of public funds for election campaign purposes.

When it comes to the elections in Belgrade, German MPs declared that the opposition had a real chance of winning.

" Apparently for this reason, citizens from other parts of the country and even from neighboring countries have been sent to the capital to cast their vote. To give the appearance of legitimacy, several strange objects are listed, including uninhabitable buildings and abandoned houses. We doubt that the result corresponds to the real will of the voters. In this case, the elections for the parliament of the city of Belgrade would have to be repeated ", says the Bundestag communique, reports Danas.

The report further adds that Serbian state authorities do not appear to be interested in clarifying these and other observations made by observers.

" The publication of the list of voters has not yet arrived. But where voter lists are systematically manipulated and information is denied, democracy and the rule of law are ultimately in decline ," concluded the members of the Bundestag's European committee./ Danas
