The whole world is watching Alaska, where US President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to mend US-Russia relations and discuss a possible ceasefire agreement in Ukraine.
Since no major agreements are expected to be signed in Anchorage, the most realistic best-case scenario we can expect today is a ceasefire followed by more talks, perhaps involving Volodymyr Zelensky.
Worst case: Donald Trump offers Ukrainian territory to Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelensky disagrees, and the fighting continues.
The good news is that these have been another relatively quiet 24 hours in Ukraine, as if the Russians don't want to anger President Trump before the talks by bombing civilians.
In the past, this calm was broken by other Russian attacks shortly after talks with the Americans, leading Donald Trump to say he suspected Vladimir Putin was simply “focusing.” Ukrainians hope that this time it will be very different.
