Violence, propaganda and internal crisis in Israeli politics

There has been a long sowing of seeds, using the accusation of anti-Semitism or, worse still, "self-hating Jew", equivalent to the old Stalinist category of "social fascism"...

The growing radicalization of the Israeli right, its adaptation to violence, to war, and to an increasingly inhuman and criminal way of its development, openly acknowledged as such (the rhetoric of “we have taken off the gloves”), as well as the increasingly instrumental use of the Jewish question and the accusation of anti-Semitism, even especially against Jews, with the easy use of the terrible category of the “self-hating Jew,” which is the racist equivalent of the accusation of “social fascism” typical of Stalinism. The list could go on, but I think the gist is clear.

The problem is that these phenomena have long been visible to everyone and have long produced their effects, especially in politics, journalism and the Internet. The news that a 21-year-old, who has self-identified as part of the “Jewish brigade”, has fired a compressed air pistol at demonstrators in April 25th Square, unfortunately fits perfectly with this picture. This fact should provoke reflection, first of all, among Israel’s supporters, who in recent years, faced with Netanyahu’s crimes, the growing isolation and hatred that his government has attracted towards Israel and Jews in general, instead of nuanced and more deeply analyzing their position, have reacted by surrendering unreservedly to the logic of polarization and the “eye for an eye” principle, entering an endless spiral.

This is a reaction of mental closure, somewhat understandable after what happened on October 7th and especially in the face of the indifference, tacit understanding or even open celebration of that atrocity by many people around the world. But now even the victims of October 7th have become another argument used instrumentally and insincerely, to justify an endless and borderless war abroad, as well as the ongoing violence and oppression at home. Everything becomes an alibi and pretext to fuel or cover up the violence of the settlers, the continuous expansion of their settlements, authoritarianism, supremacism and pure arrogance.

The peak of this trend is seen in the rapprochement with Donald Trump, in the enthusiastic participation in the “Board of peace” and in the support for the controversial MAGA crusade in favor of Viktor Orbán, considered a representative of illiberal democracy. This is accompanied by rapprochement with a circle of corrupt and exalted autocrats, where Netanyahu has drawn Israel and its supporters, who were once among the strongest defenders of liberal democracy and its values./ Adapted "Pamphlet" from "Linkiesta"
