"Dinari"/ Kosovo-Serbia new round of talks in Brussels, requests from

Will there be a solution to the dinar issue at the Brussels meeting?

Before the meeting, Western diplomats have called on the government of Kosovo to suspend the regulation that prohibits the use of the dinar. Representatives of Kosovo and Serbia meet today (04.04) in Brussels under the mediation of the EU in a new round of talks to resolve the situation created for the Serbian dinar.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, James O'Brien, previously spoke by phone with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, about the implementation of the agreement for the normalization of relations with Serbia and the discussions regarding the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo. James O'Brien wrote on Platform X that with President Osmani he discussed "the importance of implementing monetary rules from Kosovo in order to benefit all citizens of Kosovo, including the Serbian minority community, and for the parties to fulfill all the commitments made in talks mediated by the European Union. For Kosovo, this includes the establishment of the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities," O'Brien wrote.

The non-establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority by Kosovo "will not be seen as a positive signal that Kosovo wants to move towards the normalization of relations, which is now linked to Kosovo's progress on the way to the EU", he said. before and EU spokesperson Peter Stano. According to him, "Kosovo must urgently implement the mandatory obligation for the formation of the Association and this request has been repeated several times by the European Union at the highest level".

Kosovo and Serbia already signed the agreement in 2013 where Kosovo promises to form the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority, but in 2015 the Constitutional Court found that the agreement is not in full harmony with the Constitution. Thus, this issue has remained pending, although, in last year's agreement on normalization that was reached in Ohrid, North Macedonia, the Association is also included. The Kosovo-Serbia normalization agreement foresees good neighborly relations and respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while asking the parties to fulfill all previous agreements./DW
