Zelensky "surrenders", demands Russia's participation in peace

Ukraine held a summit in Switzerland last month, which was attended by representatives from 92 countries, but there was no representation from Moscow.

But things appear to be changing, as Kiev may invite a Russian delegation for a second peace summit. The news was confirmed by the Ukrainian president himself, Volodymyr Zelensky, who announced plans for the preparation by November of a second international summit aimed at ending the conflict.

" I think that the representatives of Russia should be present at the second summit. We can invite a Moscow delegation ", said Zelensky.

The Ukrainian head of state's comments come as a local media poll showed more than 40% of Ukrainians support the start of peace talks, not including residents of the Crimean Peninsula, which was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014, and the area others in the east and south of the country that are controlled by the Russians.

Moscow has criticized the summit held in Switzerland, saying that any discussion that does not include itself is "absurd". According to the survey, 43.9% of Ukrainians in the areas controlled by Kiev think that "the time has come for the start of official peace talks between Ukraine and Russia", 35% were against the start of negotiations and 21% were undecided.

The greatest support for the start of peace talks was registered in the southern regions of Ukraine, with about 60%, while in the central areas pro-negotiations were almost half of the residents. Despite pro-peace talks, however, 83% of respondents are against Russian President Vladimir Putin's demands to end the war.

Putin is demanding that Ukraine withdraw its troops from four regions in the south and east that Moscow claims it has annexed, and has also insisted that Kiev abandon any ambitions to join NATO.
