The widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin is unpredictable, saying it cannot be ruled out that one day he will use nuclear weapons.
"We don't know what to expect from him," Yulia Navalnaya told German news agency DPA.
Navalny compared the question to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying she did not expect Putin to go on the offensive then, given the strong ties between the two countries. "Yet he decided to do it. It terrifies people, keeps them in fear. No one knows what Putin will do next." Putin invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
Navalnya also said that she is not sure that Putin really has a "solid strategy".
She also commented on the recent arrests of several suspected Russian spies in Europe, saying they are another indication that Putin has long waged war in Europe's heartland, using any means necessary.
"Putin didn't start it just now, he's been doing it since the beginning. He starts wars, kills his opponents," Navalnaya said, adding that their existence does not surprise him. "I've always believed that there are a lot of Russian spies in Europe; Russian spies, that's for sure."
