The US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities involved 7 stealth bombers, which did not provoke much of a reaction from the Iranian military, according to General Dan Kane.
Describing the complex operation, codenamed “Midnight Hammer,” Army Chief of Staff Dan Kane said the “main strike package consisted of seven B-2 Spirit bombers” that flew 18 hours from the US mainland to Iran with extensive air-to-air refueling.
However, according to the map he presented, the last refueling of American aircraft within Athens' FIR occurred south of Crete.
"The Iranian fighter jets did not fly and it appears that the Iranian surface-to-air missile systems did not see us during the entire mission. We maintained the element of surprise," Kane added.
In total, more than 125 aircraft took part in the US military operation against Iran, while a deception operation was also carried out, in which bombers were deployed over the Pacific Ocean as "decoys", Kane told reporters.
The unprecedented operation involved seven B2 stealth bombers. The bombers dropped more than a dozen Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs on two Iranian nuclear facilities, Fordow and Natanz, Kane said.
Tomahawk missiles were launched in Isfahan.
The mission, which began at a base in Missouri, was the longest B2 mission since the Sept. 11 attacks, Kane said.
Around 2 AM IST last night, American B2 bombers, escorted by F-35 fighter jets, launched strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
