Ukrainian authorities have arrested a person, the suspected perpetrator of the murder of former parliamentarian and politician Andriy Parubiy, who was executed on August 30 in the city of Lviv.
The identity of the detainee has not yet been released, but he was reportedly arrested in the western Khmelnytskyi region.
The news was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after a conversation with Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, who also informed the head of state that the arrested person had testified about the incident, but without providing further details.
"Urgent investigative actions are currently underway to determine all the circumstances of this murder," Zelensky wrote, while also thanking law enforcement and prosecutors for their work.
The 54-year-old was executed with 8 bullets while walking on the sidewalk. From the footage in the area, the perpetrator of the murder is a man dressed in black and disguised as a courier for the Clovo company, who approaches the politician while the latter is walking on the sidewalk and shoots him to death.
Parubiy led the parliament from 2016 to 2019 and previously served as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. Parubiy was among the founders of the far-right Svoboda party and later became close to pro-European groups, such as Yulia Tymoshenko's "Fatherland".
