Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke about the killing of several family members of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, saying Israel will pay for crimes against humanity.
Erdogan, who forged friendly ties with Haniyeh, has been one of Israel's fiercest critics since the Gaza war began, following the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.
On the evening of April 10, the Turkish leader called Haniyeh to express his condolences for the death of the latter's three children and four grandchildren as a result of the Israeli bombardment in the Gaza Strip.
Israel has responded with a relentless ground and air offensive that the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said killed at least 33,482 people in the besieged Palestinian enclave, mostly women and children.
Erdogan has called Israel a "terrorist state" and accused it of committing a "genocide" in Gaza, while calling Hamas "liberators" or "mujahideen" fighting for their land.
