The Israeli army has executed the head of Hamas militants in the West Bank, Wisam Hazem.
The commander of Hamas militants for the eastern Palestinian territories was executed in an Israeli army drone strike in Jenin, along with two other gunmen, as they were transporting weapons, ammunition and large sums of money in a vehicle.
The execution came as Israel launched an anti-terror campaign in the West Bank on Wednesday that is considered its biggest in two decades and runs parallel to the war in the Gaza Strip, heightening tensions in the Middle East.
Since the start of the attacks, 19 people have been executed by Israeli army operations.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government accepted the plan for a partial local ceasefire from September 1 in the Gaza Strip to pave the way for polio vaccination of children in the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefires reached with the mediation of the World Health Organization are expected to last no more than 3 days.
