The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was sworn in this Saturday, receiving another mandate at the head of the country.
As he read the oath, he said that he will stick to the values of the secular republic and protect human rights. What stood out is that members of the opposition did not stand up at the moment of the oath as a sign of protest.
Erdogan won the presidential elections on May 28, in the run-off round, securing another five years in power.
The opposition has criticized the 69-year-old president for what it considers his "authoritarian" tendencies, as well as for the unfair election campaign.
The Turkish president is now expected to visit during the day the mausoleum of the founder of the modern Turkish republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, as well as meet with foreign guests at the presidential palace for a special dinner.
More than 30 heads of state and prime ministers are part of the ceremony in Ankara - among them NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg.
