Citizens using apps such as Google Maps or Waze to travel to Tel Aviv said their apps showed they were in the Lebanese capital Beirut or Cairo in Egypt.
The spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces, Daniel Hagari, said last week that Israel initiated this intervention to neutralize threats, although they are aware of the resentment that would be created.
" This is a vital and necessary tool for our defense ," he said.
