A ship belonging to the European border agency Frontex has hit rocks and sunk near the port of Megisti on the Greek island of Kastellorizo ​​today. Initial reports suggest that the Estonian ambassador was also on board.

The incident occurred during a maneuver near the port, when the ship hit rocks, capsized, and the passengers ended up in the sea. After the collision, a fire broke out, as gasoline leaked from the vehicle's engine.

Authorities report that five people were injured in the incident, one of them in serious condition and four others with minor injuries.

Greek Emergency Medical Services (EKAB) teams have been deployed to the scene, supported by a Super Puma rescue helicopter, which is participating in the operation to evacuate people who were on a boat near the incident area.

Greek authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the collision.

"The capsize and sinking of a Frontex vessel in the Megisti maritime area. There were a total of 5 people on board the vessel (4 Estonians, including the Estonian ambassador and 1 Frontex liaison officer – LS – HELLENIC AKT). The passengers were picked up by a rescue boat and a catamaran and transported to the Kastellorizo ​​health center. 4 injured passengers are being transported by a Hellenic Coast Guard Super Puma to the Rhodes hospital ," the police announced.
