An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale shook Portugal this morning.
As announced by the national meteorological service, the earthquake was registered at 05:11 local time ( 06:11 Albanian time ) and its epicenter was in the open sea, about 60 km west of the port city of Sines ( in the south of the country ). .
The American seismological service USGS announced that in this area it recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 at a depth of 17.5 kilometers.
The Spanish National Geographic Institute reported for its part that the seismic tremor was also felt in Spain, especially in Huelva, but also in Morocco.
"So far, we have no lives lost or material damage," the national commander of Portugal's Civil Protection Agency, Andre Fernandez, told a press conference.
