According to American media CBS News, Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro has been captured by Delta Force, the elite special forces unit of the US military.
US President Donald Trump declared on Saturday morning in a post on the Truth Social network that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife have been "captured and flown out of the country," following what he described as US military strikes on Venezuela.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale attack against Venezuela and its leader,” Trump wrote. He added that U.S. law enforcement was involved in the operation, without providing details about which agencies or how the operation was conducted.
So far there has been no official confirmation from American or Venezuelan authorities of these claims.
Nicolas Maduro was indicted in 2020 by a US court on alleged narcoterrorism charges.
Trump announced that more details will be made public during a press conference scheduled for 11:00 a.m. local US time (ET) at Mar-a-Lago.
