Ihor Zhovkva, a senior Ukrainian diplomatic adviser, told CNN that it is possible that the Russian missile attack targeted the two leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
A Russian missile exploded very close by as the two leaders were visiting the Black Sea port city of Odesa yesterday.
"It was really less than 500 meters away from us. What was that? ...It cannot be ruled out that it was addressed to the delegation of my president or the delegation of foreign guests", said the Ukrainian adviser.
Greece has strongly criticized Russia's aggression and has provided Kiev with humanitarian aid and weapons, including combat vehicles and ammunition.
"We heard the sound of sirens and explosions that happened next to us. We didn't have time to go to a safe place of refuge. It's a very heavy experience... it's really different to read about the war in the newspapers than to hear it with your ears and see it with your eyes ," Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis said.
Ukrainian President Zelensky said the attack had caused casualties, but did not give details on the number of victims and wounded.
"You can see for yourself what we are facing. They don't think about where they attack," Zelensky said at a joint press conference.
