Attack on Iran

The Pentagon has dubbed the attack on Iran "Epic Fury."

The name of the military mission was published by the US Department of Defense in a post on social media after the launch of the coordinated offensive with Israel on February 28, 2026.

Meanwhile, the first attack by the Israelis has been dubbed "The Lion's Roar."

Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran on Saturday, while the United States also took military action, increasing tensions in the Middle East. The developments dim hopes for a peaceful resolution to issues related to Iran's nuclear program with the West. The US military operations are expected to continue for several days, although full details of their scope have not been made public. According to reports, Iran is planning a significant response.

President Donald Trump confirmed the US operations and stressed that they aim to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, as well as address concerns about Iran's ballistic missile program.

He stated that the goal is to protect American citizens by eliminating potential threats from Iran. According to reports, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was moved to a safe location during these events.

The strikes follow a 12-day air war in June between Iran and Israel, and warnings from the US and Israel that more strikes would follow if Iran continued its nuclear efforts. Israeli officials have described the situation as a necessary move to protect the country from threats, launching operations at key times, including the fasting month of Ramadan and just before the Jewish holiday of Purim.

An Israeli defense official said the military operation had been planned for months in coordination with the United States. Iranian media reported explosions in Tehran, while Israel took measures to prepare the population for possible missile attacks, closing schools and restricting airspace.

Negotiations between the United States and Iran resumed in February with the aim of resolving long-standing disputes, but Israel insisted that any agreement must include dismantling Iran's nuclear capabilities and addressing its missile program.

Iran has expressed a willingness to negotiate limits on its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief, but has denied any links to its missile program and warned it would defend itself in the event of an attack, threatening retaliation against US bases in the region.
