United States President Donald Trump declared from the White House that nuclear weapons cannot be left in the hands of "madmen," referring to the previous Iranian leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed that a "complete regime change" has already occurred in Iran, following joint US-Israeli attacks on Iranian government structures.
The US president tried to downplay the impact of these developments, arguing that the current leadership is more moderate compared to the previous one.
" Today the people there are much more reasonable than they were before ," Trump said, adding that the representatives with whom negotiations are being conducted on behalf of Iran are "much more reasonable."
He stressed that talks with Tehran are taking place in a positive climate and that he believes the Iranian side is acting "in good faith."
Trump's statements come at a time of high tension in the region, as military and diplomatic developments between the United States and Iran remain unclear and with potentially far-reaching consequences.
