Iran has denied seeking a ceasefire or negotiations with the United States, contradicting statements by US President Donald Trump that Tehran is aiming for a deal to stop the conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with the "Face the Nation" program on CBS News, stated that Iran sees no reason to hold talks with Washington.
According to him, the dialogue between the two countries was continuing even when the United States decided to launch attacks.
"We have never asked for a ceasefire or negotiations. We see no reason why we should talk to the Americans, because we were talking to them when they decided to attack us, and this was the second time," Araghchi said.
The Iranian top diplomat added that the current clash is a conflict chosen by US President Donald Trump and the United States itself.
"This is a conflict chosen by President Trump and the United States, and we will continue to defend ourselves ," he declared.
Recall that Donald Trump previously stated that Iran has signaled readiness for negotiations and a ceasefire, suggesting that Tehran is interested in reducing tensions with the United States.
"From what we've heard, Iran wants to talk and they want a ceasefire. They know they have to make a deal," Trump said in a statement to the media.
According to him, Washington remains open to dialogue, but only if Iran shows a willingness to change its approach and negotiate a new agreement.
