Iran signals negotiations, US warns: The war has just begun

Messages sent through a third country to the CIA suggest a willingness for talks, while the Pentagon warns of a more aggressive phase of military operations.

Iranian intelligence services have sent indirect signals to the United States that Tehran may be open to discussions on ending the war. CNN reported that the messages were transmitted through a third country to the US Central Intelligence Agency.

Sources familiar with the indirect communications stated that contact exists, but US officials emphasize that there are currently no open negotiations. According to them, any diplomatic path to reducing tensions remains distant.

So far, the communication channel has not produced concrete talks on de-escalation.

The Pentagon describes the conflict as the start of a more aggressive phase of military operations. The US strategy aims to strike Iran's missile and drone capabilities and prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon.

During a press conference on Wednesday, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared that the United States “has only just begun.” He announced that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ air and naval forces had been “destroyed,” signaling that military pressure remains Washington’s top priority.

In the US Congress, some lawmakers are seeking a clear strategy for ending the conflict, which could include a concrete diplomatic path.

Meanwhile, the Iranian leadership has not publicly shown any willingness to negotiate, even though the ongoing attacks have hit the top command structures and increased pressure on the Revolutionary Guard's ability to mount counterattacks.
