Chinese President Xi Jinping has put forward four proposals aimed at safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. The position was made public by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning in a social media post.
According to her, the proposals focus on several key principles related to international relations and regional stability, especially in the Gulf region.
The first point is related to maintaining the commitment to the principle of peaceful coexistence. The Gulf States in the Middle East are considered close neighbors, which cannot be displaced, therefore the importance of improving relations between them is underlined. In this context, it is proposed to build a common security architecture that is comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable, strengthening the foundations for peaceful coexistence in the region.
The second proposal emphasizes the importance of respecting national sovereignty. According to the Chinese position, sovereignty is fundamental to the survival and development of any country, especially developing countries, and should not be infringed upon. In this regard, full respect for the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the Gulf States, as well as the protection of their personnel, institutions and facilities, is required.
The third point emphasizes maintaining commitment to the rule-based international order. China underlines the need to uphold the international system with the UN at its center, as well as respect for the norms and rules stemming from international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
While the fourth point focuses on the balance between development and security. According to this principle, security is considered a prerequisite for development, while development is seen as a guarantee for long-term security. In this context, it is required that all parties contribute to creating a positive environment for the development of the Gulf states. China also expresses its willingness to share the opportunities arising from its modernization and to cooperate with the countries of the region in the function of development and stability.
