Four years after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, on February 24, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that his country remains determined to make every effort to achieve peace.
On the eve of the commemorative activities taking place in Ukraine, Zelensky stressed that, in his opinion, Russia has not achieved the goals declared at the beginning of the war, despite fierce confrontations and prolonged fighting over four years.
In an interview with CNN from Kiev, Zelensky also focused on the role of the United States, expressing his belief that the American president and his team are interested in ending the conflict.
Asked what he expects from President Donald Trump's State of the Union address, Zelensky said: " I want him to stand on our side."
The Ukrainian president also spoke about communication with Washington, describing the cooperation between the two countries' negotiating teams as positive. "We have good communications between our group and the American group," he said, adding that he believes the American administration is realistically aiming to end the war.
The war in Ukraine remains one of the largest conflicts in Europe in recent decades, while diplomatic efforts for a solution remain the focus of the international community.
