North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for an increase in missile production during a visit to a weapons factory in preparation for a "military clash" with South Korea and the United States. This is what the state agency KCNA reported today.
The White House said yesterday that Pyongyang supplied Moscow with ballistic missiles and delivery systems used in major attacks in recent days against Ukraine, reports Ansa.
"Our information indicates that North Korea has recently supplied launch systems and some ballistic missiles to Russia," said US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.
Russian forces fired Pyongyang-supplied missiles on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 toward Ukraine, the U.S. official said. Historical allies Russia and North Korea are both subject to international sanctions: the former for its invasion of Ukraine and the latter for its banned missile and nuclear weapons programs.
At the end of a five-day meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in late December, Kim had already ordered the acceleration of military preparations for a "war" that could "start at any time" on the peninsula.
