China shows its "muscles", publishes the documentary on how they can

China has released a new documentary about its military's readiness to attack Taiwan.

The documentary features soldiers vowing to give their lives if necessary, as Beijing continues to toughen its rhetoric against the self-ruled island.

Chasing Dreams, an eight-part documentary, was broadcast by state broadcaster CCTV earlier this week to mark the 96th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army. It featured military drills and the testimony of dozens of soldiers, some of whom expressed their willingness to die in a possible attack on Taiwan.

China claims that Taiwan - a self-governing democracy - is part of its territory and will be occupied by force if necessary.

State media and the Chinese military often publish propaganda material, showing the modernization of the military, but also military exercises.

These materials are used to boost Chinese nationalism and display the military's confidence against Taiwan, and implicitly, the island's relations with the United States.

The US does not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state, but has pledged to help the island defend itself in the event of an invasion.

Last month, the White House announced a $345 million military aid package for Taiwan. This decision was criticized by Beijing.

The documentary "Chasing Dreams" showed, among other things, military exercises called "Common Sword", in which precision strikes against Taiwan were simulated. Those exercises were held in April around the self-governing island after Taiwan's president, Tsai Ing-wen, visited the US.

In the documentary, three Chinese warships were also shown sailing with several other warships.

In recent months, the Chinese military has sent warships to the Taiwan Strait, which have been seen as a threat to Taiwan. Also, the military has crossed the dividing line in this strait and the informal demarcation zone between the two countries, often to oppose interactions between Taiwan and the US.
