Brazil's president is not welcome in Israel until he retracts his remarks comparing Israel's military operation in Gaza to the Holocaust, Israel's foreign minister has said.
Israel Katz accused Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of committing a "serious anti-Semitic attack".
He called the Brazilian ambassador to criticize him for the comments.
" We will not forget nor forgive. It is a serious anti-Semitic attack. In my name and in the name of the citizens of Israel – tell President Lula that he is persona non grata in Israel until he returns him ,” Mr. Katz said.
Yesterday, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said: " What is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people has no parallel in other historical moments. In fact, it existed when Hitler decided to kill the Jews."
The Brazilian Israeli confederation said Mr Lula's statement was a "perverse distortion of reality" and accused his government of an "extreme and unbalanced" stance.
