The direct involvement of NATO member Belgium in a war is something that seems surreal.
And yet, during a visit to Belgian soldiers stationed in Romania, Belgian defense chief Michel Hofmann warned of the potential risk of conflict with Russia.
"It's a scary scenario. "A full-scale war with Russia, openly involving Belgium, is something that seemed unthinkable before Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine," he said.
Today, according to Michel Hfman, the head of the Belgian Defense, "we have reason to worry".
"The Russians have already demonstrated their readiness to attack a neighbor," he declared for the VRT medium.
The idea of a Belgium at war no longer seems so far-fetched, writes La Dernière Heure. Michel Hofman specifies that Belgium will have to act within the framework of NATO forces and contribute to reliable prevention in case of attacks against a member of the Alliance.
The Belgian Chief of Defense does not rule out any scenario and even declares: Europe must prepare urgently. Those who aspire to peace would do well to prepare for war.
