The Iranian regime is intact but "largely degraded" following US military operations, according to statements by US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
Senior intelligence officials will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday to answer lawmakers' questions about information provided to the Trump administration before the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran.
Her testimony takes on particular significance following the resignation yesterday of her deputy and top counterterrorism official, Joe Kent, who in a letter criticized the war, saying Iran did not "pose an immediate threat to the United States."
According to Gabbard, although Iran's nuclear enrichment program was "eliminated" in the June attacks, the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
He added that the United States has not seen any efforts so far from Iran to rebuild its enrichment capacity.
He warned that Iran and its allies still retain the ability to attack the interests of the US and its allies in the Middle East.
He said that if the regime survives, it will likely embark on a multi-year effort to rebuild its missiles and drones.
