A UN official has accused the US of defending what should not be defended when it comes to Israel's operation in Gaza.
Speaking to Sky News, Francesca Albanese, special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, said the US continues to present obstacles in Israel's defense.
" This operation has already caused almost 20,000 deaths, 8,000 are still missing and 1.9 million people in Gaza have been displaced. It is winter and there is not enough space to shelter them. The situation is beyond desperate. What does the US expect for it declared a truce? This is incomprehensible to me , "she said.
Mrs. Albanese went on to say that the hostages must return home safely and that this can be achieved through a ceasefire.
" With all this trauma, with all this devastation, I cannot imagine what tomorrow will hold. There is certainly a need for the release of the hostages, there is a need for unhindered humanitarian access, and there is a need for a protected presence deployed in occupied territory ," she said.
