
Eight Israeli soldiers have been killed since the ground invasion began in southern Lebanon. They are among the first Israeli combat deaths to be reported from the region, with Hezbollah saying its fighters clashed with the IDF in two border towns, Maroun Al Ras and Adaisseh.
Israeli media reported that IDF infantry and tank units operating in southern Lebanon after the army sent thousands of additional troops and artillery to the border.
The Lebanese army said Israeli forces had advanced 400 meters across the border and retreated after a short period, its first confirmation of the incursion.
The Israeli military said ground forces backed by airstrikes had killed militants at close range, without saying where.
It has warned people in 50 Lebanese villages and towns to evacuate north of the Awali River, about 37 miles from the border.
