US President Donald Trump has revealed details about the US operation in Venezuela, where Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was captured.

Trump revealed to Fox News that the surgery had been planned several days earlier.

"We wanted to capture Maduro four days ago, but the weather was bad," Trump said, adding that the residence where the Venezuelan president was located was a "fortress."

Trump stated that he followed the operation minute by minute from his residence at Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

"I was able to follow the operation in real time, saw every aspect and listened to communications between Florida and the forces on the ground in Venezuela ," he said.

The American president praised the professionalism of the military: "It was incredible to see the quality of leadership, the expertise and the level of equipment. Everything worked perfectly."

According to Trump, several injuries were reported during the operation, but there were no casualties among American military forces.

"Our forces reported injuries, but no American soldiers have been killed," he stressed.
The US president stated that Nicolás Maduro had requested negotiations.

"Maduro wanted to negotiate, but I wouldn't," Trump said, adding that his capture is a clear message:  "This shows that we will not allow ourselves to be intimidated."

Trump announced that the Venezuelan president is currently being held aboard the ship "Hiroshima". "He will be transferred together with his wife to New York, where he will face American justice," the US president declared.

In his statements, Trump directly accused Maduro of being responsible for the drug crisis in the US.

"Maduro is responsible for the deaths of 300,000 Americans a year due to drugs," he said.

Trump stated that the US would consider the possibility of Maria Corina Machado taking over the leadership of Venezuela.

"We will assess whether Machado can lead the country ," he said.

Another statement that is expected to cause reactions was the one on oil:  "The United States will be heavily involved in the Venezuelan oil industry," Trump said, recalling that the country has the largest oil reserves in the world.
