A plane believed to be carrying Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has landed near Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York state, after Maduro was captured this morning by US forces in Caracas.
The president and his wife were initially transported on the American warship USS Iwo Jima, which was destined for the United States.
According to NBC News sources, Maduro is expected to be transferred by helicopter to the city, where he will be registered and then sent to the federal prison Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Officials have said Maduro is expected to appear in court by Monday evening at the latest.
