The Republican Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, stated that the military operation in Iran is expected to end soon, emphasizing that the main objectives have been achieved.
In a statement to the Associated Press and other reporters at the Capitol this week, Johnson said that “the original mission has essentially been accomplished.” He explained that the primary goal was to neutralize Iran’s ballistic missile and production capabilities, as well as to weaken its naval forces.
According to him, these objectives have been largely achieved.
However, Johnson acknowledged that Iran's ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz continues to influence the development of the conflict. He stressed that this situation "somewhat prolongs" the conflict, especially in conditions when US allies, for the most part, have not responded positively to the president's request for support.
"Once a certain level of calm is restored, I believe the operation will be almost complete," Johnson added.
