US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on the recent release of Jeffrey Epstein's emails, calling it a "hoax" and blaming Democrats.
Through the Truth Social platform, Trump writes that “The Democrats are doing everything in their ‘weak’ hand to push the Epstein scam again, despite the release of 50,000 pages of documents by the Department of Justice, in order to distract from all their bad policies and losses, especially the shame of the shutdown, where their party is in complete disarray and has no idea what to do.”
The president also argued that Jeffrey Epstein was a Democratic problem, not a Republican problem.
"Some weak Republicans are 'bowing' because they are soft and stupid. Epstein was a Democrat and he is a Democrat problem, not a Republican problem! Ask Bill Clinton, Reed Hoffman and Larry Summers about Epstein, they know all about him, don't waste your time with Trump. I have a place to run!", the American President continued.
Relations with Epstein
Donald Trump has consistently denied any involvement in or knowledge of Epstein's sex trafficking ring. However, the two businessmen maintained a close relationship, regularly flying between New York and Palm Beach, partying at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club and dining at Epstein's Manhattan mansion.
In 1992, Trump and Epstein are seen standing on the edge of a dance floor at Mar-a-Lago, pointing at the dancing women. Also that year, businessman George Houraney organized a "calendar girl" contest at Trump's request, but when 28 girls arrived by plane, he discovered that the only participants were Trump and Epstein.
In a statement to New York Magazine in 2002, Trump said: "I've known Jeff for 15 years, he's a great guy. He's a lot of fun."
The two men's relationship has been thrust back into the spotlight after the release of emails this week. House Democrats announced they are reviewing 23,000 documents released by Epstein's estate.
Three leaked emails claim that the US president allegedly "spent hours" at the billionaire's residence with a victim of sexual exploitation, whom the White House identified as Virginia Giuffre.
In response, Trump's Press Secretary, Carolyn Levitt, said the emails "were selectively leaked to the liberal media to create a false narrative intended to smear the President of the United States."
