Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris said she is considering running for president again in the 2028 election. She made the statement during an event organized by the civil rights organization National Action Network in New York.
During the event, the organization's founder, the Reverend Al Sharpton, asked her directly if she intended to run for president again. Responding to the audience, Harris said, "Maybe , maybe. I'm thinking about it, I'm thinking about it ," drawing positive reactions from the audience.
She added that she will make the decision by assessing who can best perform the duties of president in 2028 "for the American people."
Kamala Harris served as vice president in President Joe Biden's administration. She lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump, who won both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Harris previously served as a U.S. senator and attorney general of California. She also ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination in 2020.
A possible run for her in 2028 could face challenges, as polls show that a portion of voters are looking for new figures to lead the Democratic Party after the 2024 defeat.
The National Action Network event was also attended by other political figures considered potential future Democratic candidates, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
