Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamanei warned the US and Israel that they must pay "compensation" for their actions...
Iran's new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, issued his first statement since his appointment to the country's highest office today. Mojtaba Khamenei did not appear in public but his message was read out on state television.
In his message, Mojtaba Khamenei called for unity among the Iranian people and sent condolences to people who have lost their loved ones during the war, saying the damages will be compensated.
"This is something I share with people who have lost their loved ones because I lost my father, I lost my wife. My sister lost her child, as well as her husband who was martyred. But what makes it easier for us to endure all these difficulties is to believe in God's grace and know that patience will solve it. I assure everyone that we will not ignore the fact that we will avenge our martyrs. It is not just about the fact that they martyred our supreme leader. And it is not just about him, it is about every compatriot who was killed during the last war ," Khamenei's statement said.
He further added that the Strait of Hormuz, a key sea route, will remain closed as a "tool of pressure."
"The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed as a means of pressure and American bases in the region must be closed, otherwise they will be attacked ," Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said.
The message, read on Iranian state television by a presenter, also contained a warning that all US bases in the region must be closed or "will be attacked."
Khamenei also said Tehran believes in "friendship" with its neighbors, stressing that his country is only targeting US bases in those countries. However, he warned that Iran will continue to target neighboring countries that have US bases in retaliation.
“ We have had good relations with all these 15 neighboring countries… we only targeted these military bases (and) we will continue, we will have to continue and do this. These countries must make their duty clear to the invaders of our beloved homeland and the murderers of our people ,” he added, saying he recommends that they close their US bases as soon as possible.
Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei warned the US and Israel that they must pay "compensation" for their actions. Iran's new supreme leader did not mention the two countries by name, referring to them only as "enemies."
" We will demand compensation from the enemy. If we cannot get compensation from the enemy, we will destroy their properties as much as they destroyed ours ," Iran's new supreme leader said in a speech, read by a presenter on state television.
