Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban met with US President Donald Trump in the Cabinet Room at the White House.

Speaking to the media, Trump praised Orban as a strong leader who has run a truly great country.

"He's done a fantastic job, he's a very powerful man within his country, but he's also beloved. He's run a really great country ," Trump says.

Trump goes on to describe him as a "special person" and confirmed that the pair will talk about the war in Ukraine, as well as energy.

"I just want to welcome this really good person, he's a great leader ," Trump added.

Orban, on the other hand, said that the reason for this meeting is to open a new chapter between the US and Hungary.

"The reason we are here is to open a new chapter between the bilateral relations of the United States and Hungary ," Orban said.

The Hungarian leader further said that the war in Ukraine is the most important issue of the moment and that achieving peace is the main focus.

" We would like to discuss with you how we can contribute to helping you in your efforts for peace ," he added.

Then the reporters began asking questions, asking Trump if he was prepared to grant Hungary an exemption from the obligation to purchase Russian oil.

"We're looking at it. It's very difficult for them to get oil and gas from other areas... they don't have a sea, they don't have ports, and therefore they have a difficult problem. When you look at what's happened with Europe, a lot of these countries, they don't have these problems and they buy a lot of oil and gas from Russia and, as you know, I'm very concerned about that ," Trump said.

Orban, on the other hand, said that oil will be one of the issues today during his talks with Trump. He stressed that he will clearly explain what the consequences would be for the Hungarian people and for the Hungarian economy if it did not receive oil and gas from Russia.

"We are supplied by pipelines, it's not an ideological or political issue, it's a physical reality because we can't afford it ," Trump said.

Donald Trump told reporters that he believes Viktor Orban understands Vladimir Putin and knows him very well, which he said will help achieve peace in Ukraine.

“I think Victor thinks we will end that war in the not-too-distant future ,” he says.

Orban, on the other hand, added that he is "strongly convinced" and says the question is whether Westerners are united or not.

"The problem is that the president has made great efforts, which are simply excellent and very positive for the European continent and all the peoples of Europe. But at the same time, we are not united because Brussels and the Europeans have a different approach to war. So, the only pro-peace government is the government of the United States and small Hungary in Europe ," he said.

Trump and Putin were scheduled to meet in Hungary after a phone call last month, but the talks were canceled by the US president, with Trump saying the meeting was canceled because Putin was not ready to stop the war.

"The fundamental disagreement is that they just don't want to stop yet. I think they will, I think that's paying a lot of attention to Russia, obviously at a huge cost to both countries ," the US president said.

Trump reiterates that, according to him, Russia's invasion of Ukraine would never have happened if he were president and says it was Biden's fault.

On the other hand, Orban agrees with his ally and says there is no doubt that if Trump were president of the US, there would be no war.

Asked if he is still eager to go to Budapest for a summit with Putin, Trump says he would like to do it in the Hungarian capital.

Trump also added that he and Orban agree that the war will end. Orban further told reporters that he has "some ideas" on how the war in Ukraine could end and will present them to Trump today./ Pamphlet
