North Korea has taken another strict social control measure, officially banning the wearing of blue jeans, considering them an expression of Western influence and capitalist culture. International media reports that the Pyongyang regime sees the style as a threat to the country's "ideological purity" and traditional values.
The ban also includes other clothing such as skinny jeans, modern hairstyles, dyed hair and piercings. According to North Korean authorities, these styles represent the decadence of Western societies and are unacceptable in the country's socialist society.
Such measures are part of an ongoing effort to prevent any external influence on citizens' daily lives, including the way they dress or look.
In this way, the regime attempts to maintain complete control over the population's behavior and lifestyle, isolating it increasingly from the rest of the world.
