Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran does not trust the United States and is ready for negotiations with Washington only if they are serious about ending the conflict. During a visit to New Delhi to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting, Araghchi said he does not trust the US.
"Tehran does not trust the US. We are only interested in negotiations if the Americans show seriousness in ending the war," he said.
Regarding Pakistan's mediation efforts, the Iranian minister said that the process has not failed, but is currently in "difficulties."
Reacting to President Donald Trump's comments today, Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran and Oman are consulting to establish a joint mechanism for the future management of the Strait of Hormuz.
"We are consulting to establish an appropriate mechanism for the future management of the Strait of Hormuz and to ensure the safe passage of all ships," he said.
Earlier, Araghchi had proposed that Iran and Oman cooperate to control the strategic strait, through which a large part of the world's oil trade passes.
The Iranian minister's statements come at a time of high tension in the region, following the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz and threats to the safety of international navigation.
Iran has insisted that any solution to the strait must include the Gulf littoral states and guarantee its national interests. There has been no official reaction from the United States to Araghchi's latest comments.
