Students began a 24-hour blockade of a street intersection in central Belgrade on December 29, protesting allegations of irregularities in the December 17 election and demanding that authorities there allow the opening of voter rolls.
This location is one of the busiest in the capital of Serbia.
They are blocking the intersection of Birçaninova and Kneza Milosha streets, near the building of the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government.
As the Radio Free Europe team reports from the ground, the traffic police are regulating traffic in an area and avoiding vehicles.
Kneza Milosha Street is one of the most frequented in the capital.
One of the organizers, Ivan Bjelic, speaking through a megaphone, said that ambulance vehicles will be allowed to circulate during the blockade.
He announced a music program during the blockade, as well as the setting up of a tent camp.
As they announced earlier, the blockade will last 24 hours - until Saturday, December 30, at noon - when they plan to join the protest announced by representatives of "ProGlas", an initiative started before the elections, signed by more than 190 thousand citizens.
This is just one of the student protests. The last one was held on December 27, in front of the Faculty of Philosophy.
On that day, they officially repeated their request to open the electoral roll to determine if there are any irregularities in it.
The students joined the protests that have been ongoing since the December 17 elections, called by the largest opposition coalition "Serbia Against Violence", accusing the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of electoral fraud, among other things. registering its voters from Serbia and abroad in Belgrade addresses.
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) also expressed suspicions about irregularities in the election process, which announced on December 18 that the elections were marked by major irregularities, misuse of public funds, media dominance by President Aleksandar Vucic, negative campaign and spread of fear.
Also, a part of the MEPs demanded an independent investigation of all irregularities reported during the elections held in Serbia on December 17.
The United States of America also called on the authorities in Serbia to investigate the claims of international observers. /REL
