In March 2023 during the visit of the Chinese president to Moscow, Vladimir Putin told Xi Jinping that the war in Ukraine will continue for at least 5 years.
With these statements, according to the Japanese Nikkei network, Putin tried to assure China that the prolonged war is beneficial for Russia and in the end Moscow will win.
At the same time, it was a warning to Xi not to change his pro-Russian stance. However, there is no information whether China's leadership considers Putin's statement and his intention to continue the war for five years to be credible.
Based on these statements, Nikkei concludes that Putin's messages through diplomatic channels show that he is not ready for a ceasefire.
