The gunman who killed 14 people at a Prague university confessed to an earlier double murder in his suicide note, Czech police said.
The note found in David Kozak's home contained a confession that he had shot and killed a man and his young daughter in the woods near the city on Dec. 15, six days before the Charles University attack.
Police said he had been on a list of 4,000 suspects for their murders. Kozak also killed his father, bringing his total number of victims to 17.
The attack on the university on December 21 is the worst mass attack in Czech history. Kozak, a 24-year-old MA history student at the university, killed himself after being surrounded by armed police, Tass reports.
As first reported in Denik N newspaper, the note was discovered by police at Kozak's home on December 21, the same day as the attack. In his diary, he confessed to killing the daughter and father with a gun in the Klanovica forest on the eastern outskirts of the capital a week ago.
According to Czech media, the victims are reported to be a 32-year-old man and a two-month-old girl. Last week's attack on the university centered on the Faculty of Arts building on Jan Palach Square, where Kozak was seen opening fire from the roof.
University staff and students were told to protect themselves during the attack. Thirteen people died at the university, while the fourteenth victim died of her injuries at the hospital. 25 other people were injured.
The police have not disclosed the possible motives of the murder, saying that the investigation is ongoing. Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan has called on mayors of all cities and villages to cancel New Year's fireworks displays.
On social media, he called on all Czechs to celebrate the New Year in a peaceful way, saying it was the least the nation could do. The attack on the university had one of the highest death tolls from a mass shooting by a single gunman in Europe this century.
