After the EU, Britain accepts the parliamentarians' letter: We are working

The letter of 56 parliamentarians from Europe and the USA, who demand a more equal approach towards Kosovo and Serbia, has been accepted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom. In a response to the Express Newspaper, the British say they will respond to MPs in due course.

A spokesperson from the Office for Foreign Policy of the United Kingdom has stated that they are working for the entire Western Balkans to create a safe region.

"We are working throughout the Western Balkans to create a safe, peaceful and prosperous region, built on strong foundations of democracy, rule of law and cooperation," he said .

The British MFA emphasizes that they have requested the reduction of tensions in the north of the country, which arose after the installation of Albanian mayors in municipal facilities.

"Together with international partners, we have sought de-escalation in the north of Kosovo and encouraged a return to constructive dialogue between all parties," the response states further.

The British Foreign Secretary himself made this request to Prime Minister Kurti during the meeting he had with him in London on June 26.

"As I have made it clear to Prime Minister Kurti, the ongoing tensions put at risk what has been achieved with difficulty in Kosovo over the years together with the United Kingdom and international partners,"  said Foreign Secretary James Cleverly after the meeting with Kurti.

Yesterday, through a letter addressed to the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, the chief diplomat of the EU, Josep Borrell and the British Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, 56 parliamentarians expressed their request for a balancing of the policy of these three powers towards Kosovo and Serbia .

"Kosovo has faced great consequences after the attempts of the mayors to enter their offices in the north of Kosovo. Kosovo should coordinate with KFOR in the future to prevent escalations. But the lack of pressure on Serbia after the arbitrary detention of three Kosovo policemen and the failure to hold accountable those who carried out attacks on KFOR highlight the lack of equality in addressing tensions," the letter said .

They complained that the current approach is not working, while asking the international community to learn from our past and "make sure that we do not adopt policies for the Balkans that are biased towards Belgrade".

"We also ask you to consider the possibility of adopting a policy of preventive diplomacy to avoid further escalation of the security and political situation in the north of Kosovo, with balance and proportionality in every statement and every punishment or sanction that is undertaken and that those who respect the rule of law and democracy are not punished," the letter said.

One of the signatories of this letter, the British MP Alicia Kearns, has repeatedly raised this topic in the British Parliament.

She distributed this letter, saying that "we need preventive diplomacy, where we make sure that there is balance in our relations and we do not repeat the mistakes of the past".
