Dissensions in the Alliance for Albanians, North Macedonia dismisses two

The Assembly of North Macedonia fired two ministers of the Technical Government from the ranks of the Alliance for Shippers (ASH) on Friday at midnight after they had supported the proposal of this party to join the Albanian opposition bloc - the European League for Change - in the May elections.

The dismissal of the Minister of Health, Fatmir Mejhiti and the Minister of Administration and Information Society, Azir Aliu, has resulted in many tensions and controversies between the parties in power and the opposition.

In the justification of the request for their dismissal, the Technical Prime Minister, Talat Xhaferi, said that "there are no objections to the work and professionalism of ministers Mejhiti and Aliu, but after their union with Arben Taravar, they should leave, since in the Government they cannot are two opposition entities".

The technical government, which has a mandate of 100 days for the organization and smooth running of the upcoming parliamentary elections, also includes the Macedonian opposition led by VMRO DPMNE.

The dismissed minister, Fatmir Mejhiti, accused the parties in power that "his dismissal was initiated for political interests" and that, according to him, the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) party is behind this.

The dismissal of the ministers comes ten days after the formation of the technical Government, on January 28. In their place, on Monday, February 12, Ilir Demiri is expected to be appointed as Minister of Health and Naim Bajrami as Minister of Administration and Information Society.

The session was called by Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi, after a party commission of the Alliance for Albanians (ASH), which is part of the technical Government, proposed the dismissal of two of its ministers.

The decision was taken after the two ministers came out publicly in support of the president of ASH, Arben Taravari, to switch to the opposition.

However, this had provoked a reaction in a part of the party that is led by its former chairman, Ziadin Sela, the current chairman of the Assembly of this party.

On Saturday, February 10, he called the Assembly to ascertain the responsibility, but also to start the procedure for Taravar's dismissal from the party.

However, Taravari has said that Sela does not have the support of the parliamentarians, as many of them have supported his position to form a coalition with the opposition.

The split in ASH has also been reflected in the Assembly of North Macedonia.

The session started three hours late as the parties in power could not secure the necessary number of deputies for its launch, which was also proven by the vote, which resulted in a simple majority of 62 deputies./ REL
