The former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dries van Acht and his wife Ezeni have chosen to end their lives using euthanasia.
The Rights Forum, a think tank founded by Dries van Acht, announced the couple's death on Friday.
On Monday, 93-year-old Dries van Acht and his wife of the same age, Ezeni van Acht-Krekelberg, died in the city of Nijmegen and were buried by their family. In recent years, the couple has faced serious health problems.
"He died hand in hand with his beloved wife", it is written in the corresponding announcement on the website of "The Rights Forum". After seven decades by his side, Ezeni has always been for Dries van Acht "his wife" and that he would love her until death.
A member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), Dries van Acht served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 1977 to 1982.
He was a supporter of the creation of an independent Palestinian state and had criticized the Dutch government for its one-sided attitude towards the Middle East.
