The Ukrainian military intelligence service (HUR) celebrated its 33rd anniversary with a provocative action in the heart of Moscow.
"Greeting cards" with the inscription "Responsibility is inevitable" and the HUR logo were placed in various neighborhoods of the Russian capital. These messages, referring to the war in Ukraine, were visible on fences, in parks, at public transport stations, on poles and on walls.
A HUR source told the Kyiv Independent newspaper that "residents of the capital of so-called Russia can apparently soon expect special congratulations from the Ukrainian military intelligence service."
This statement could indicate further planned actions. The action in Moscow came just a day after a massive Russian attack on Ukraine. On the night of September 7, Russia launched its largest drone attack since the start of the war, using 810 Shahed drones, as well as 13 cruise and ballistic missiles.
At least four civilians were killed and 44 others were injured in the attack. For the first time since the start of the war, the building of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers in Kiev was also hit.
For Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, this represents a new level of escalation. The former world heavyweight champion said on Sunday that "Putin wants to escalate the war even further and is not ready to find a diplomatic solution. This is also demonstrated by the attack on the government building, which until now was considered a red line."
