Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an interview to American Fox News, shortly after clashing with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. Zelensky stated that it would be "difficult" for Ukraine to withstand the invasion of Russian forces without American support.
"It will be difficult for us," the Ukrainian president said, responding to American Fox News journalist Brett Baier who asked him whether Ukraine could win or resist Moscow without Washington's support.
"That's why I'm here. That's why we're talking about the upcoming negotiations. It will be difficult without your support," he added .
"I don't owe Trump any apology"
"I don't owe Trump any apologies," he added after the clash at the White House.
"I thank him for the invitation and I respect it," Zelensky said, underlining that "some conversations should not take place in front of the media, with all due respect for democracy and a free press."
"I want a just peace, a ceasefire is not enough"
"I want peace, that's why I came here to meet President Trump. It's not enough to say 'ceasefire,' we want a just and lasting peace," the Ukrainian president said, indirectly responding to Trump, who had earlier said that Zelensky "is not ready for peace yet."
"I want security guarantees from the US"
"A ceasefire without security guarantees from the United States is a very sensitive issue for my people. No one wants the war to end more than we do," he added.
"I am very grateful to the United States for their support. You have helped us survive," the Ukrainian president said, adding: " I respect the American president and people."
"Trump between the sides? I wish he was more pro-Kiev"
"I would like Trump to be more on our side and not in the middle, because the war started because Putin attacked us ," he said.
Resignation? "The Ukrainian people must decide"
"Only Ukrainians can decide whether I should take a step back or not," Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Fox News, responding to the call for his resignation from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
"Americans choose their president, Ukrainians choose theirs. That's how it works," the Kiev leader declared.
"I want to maintain my relationship with Trump"
The Ukrainian president responded with "yes, of course" when the Fox News reporter asked him, at the end of the interview, if he believed the relationship with Donald Trump could be saved after the clash in the White House.
Before answering, Zelensky received translation from his staff to ensure he understood the question correctly and gave the right answer.
"Yes, of course, because these are relationships that are more than two presidents. They are historical relationships, strong relationships between our peoples ."
"I am grateful to the president, and, of course, to the Congress, but first of all, to your people. Your people helped save my people... we really wanted to have strong relations. I just want to be honest and I just want our partners to understand the situation correctly. This is so that we don't lose our friendship," Zelensky said.
