On his way to The Hague, where he will attend the NATO Summit, US President Donald Trump has posted what he claims to be a text message from the Alliance's Secretary General, Mark Rutte.
According to the message released by Trump, Rutte congratulates the US President for "decisive action in Iran" that was "truly extraordinary" and "something no one else dared to do."
The message continues: Trump is "flying to another great success in The Hague" and adds "it wasn't easy, but we got everyone on board for the 5 percent!".
"Donald, you have brought us to a really, really important moment for America, Europe and the world. You will achieve something that no American president could do in decades," the message said.
International media have questioned whether the message was sent by the NATO Secretary General. But Reuters has confirmed that Rutte sent this message to Trump on Tuesday.
In that message from Rutte to Trump, the one who claims that Trump has done with Iran what “no one else dared to do,” and who insists that he was “flying towards another great success in The Hague tonight” to “achieve something that no American president could do in decades”…
En route to the Netherlands, US President Donald Trump raised uncertainty about whether the US would adhere to mutual defence guarantees set out in the NATO treaty, the AP reported, in vague comments made aboard Air Force One.
“It depends on your definition,” Trump told reporters Tuesday as he headed to The Hague, where this year’s summit is being held. “There are many definitions of Article Five, you know that, right? But I’m committed to being their friend.”
The AP added that, when asked later to clarify, Trump said he is "committed to saving lives" and "committed to life and safety," but did not elaborate further, saying he did not want to give details while flying on a plane.
