The President of China is waiting for the meeting Blinken: I hope the USA

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in what is the culmination of his two-day visit to China.

The fact that the Chinese head of state met the American diplomat is being interpreted as a message that he is sending to the government that he is trying to stop the downward spiral of relations between the two countries.

Protocol normally dictates that the Chinese leader meet in this way only with other heads of state, but recent US-China tensions appear to have called for a major symbolic gesture to change the trajectory of friction between the two countries.

Xi clarified that they have reached some agreements with the US, but did not spare an appeal to the US administration for more caution.

"Both sides have made progress and reached agreements on some specific issues. This is a good thing. I hope that through this visit, Mr. Secretary, you will make more positive contributions to stabilize China-US relations", said Xi Jinping.

Blinken says he and Xi had "strong conversations" about global issues, including Russia's "war of aggression against Ukraine."

Blinken also discussed Taiwan and other issues with one of the top Chinese Communist Party figures, diplomat Wang Yi, in Beijing on the final day of his visit to China aimed at preventing differences between the two powers from heading towards the conflict.

He is the first US Secretary of State to visit China in five years.

Describing US-China relations as at an all-time low, Foreign Minister Qi Wang said the root of the problems lies in the US's wrong perception of China, while on Taiwan he made it clear that "China has no room for compromise and concessions".

The day before, Blinken met with Chinese Foreign Minister Qi Gang. The meeting lasted more than seven and a half hours and was described as "constructive".

He says he has sought to "exploit" China with the notion that the US is "seeking to contain them economically".

Blinken reiterates that the US does not support Taiwan independence - stating that it does not want to change the status quo
Issues such as human rights violations in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong, as well as the issue of North Korea, were also raised .

China-US relations have steadily declined due to trade conflicts, tensions over human rights and Taiwan - among others.
