The Belarusian leader, Alexander Lukashenko, has confirmed that the founder of Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, is in Belarus.
He added that a "security guarantee" has been given to Prigozhin, as promised by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Lukashenka also said that Prigozhin will stay in Belarus and the expenses will be paid by Wagner.
" I see that Prigozhin was flying on board this plane - yes, indeed he is in Belarus today ," he said.
Lukashenko also rejected some ideas circulating in some media and clarified that Belarus is not building any camps for the Wagner group, but added that it would accommodate them if they want.
Among other things, he said that there is no reason to be afraid of their presence and that the Belarusian authorities "will watch them closely".
" We offered them one of the abandoned military bases. It is fenced, we have everything, if they want to pitch their tents ," said Lukashenko.
He stressed that he had no plans to open any Wagner recruiting centers in Belarus, but added that he wanted to hear their experience in the war and learn from them.
" If their commanders come to us and help us... they show us what is important now... this is invaluable. This is what we should take from Wagner, " Lukashenko said during a meeting with the minister of his defense, according to state media.
